Submission rejected — what to do
Authentication Failures
Rejections are frequently caused by incorrect gateway credentials. Verify your Companies House Authentication Code and HMRC ID are entered correctly, contain no spaces, and are currently valid. Remember that Authentication Codes are case-sensitive.
Duplicate Submissions (Already Filed)
If you attempt to file for a period that HMRC or Companies House already marks as completed, your submission will be rejected. You cannot file twice for the same period. If you need to make corrections, you must use the 'Amend Return' feature.
UTR Mismatch
HMRC will flatly reject the filing if the UTR provided does not match the company name or registered office on their file. Verify the UTR belongs to the correct company.
Resolving Rejections
Read the specific rejection reason provided on your dashboard. It is generated directly by the government gateway. Once you have corrected the underlying issue in the wizard or your settings, you can safely attempt to resubmit the filing.
