Two-factor authentication

5 min read

Passwords alone are often not enough to protect sensitive accounts. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) requires you to provide a second piece of evidence when logging in, drastically reducing the risk of unauthorized access even if your password is compromised.

Setting up 2FA

To enable 2FA, navigate to your Profile and select the Security tab. Click 'Enable 2FA'. You will be presented with a QR code. Scan this code using your preferred authenticator app.

Supported Apps

We support any Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) application. Popular choices include Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, and password managers like 1Password or Bitwarden.

Verification

After scanning the code, your app will generate a 6-digit time-based code. Enter this code into WeFile to confirm the setup. From then on, you will need to enter a fresh code from your app every time you log in.

Backup Codes

During setup, you will be provided with a set of single-use backup recovery codes. Store these safely offline! If you lose access to your phone or authenticator app, these codes are the only way to regain access to your account.
