Interest payable and similar charges
Interest expenses should be distinctly segregated in your financial statements rather than being grouped together with general administration costs.
Dedicated Interest Field
WeFile provides a dedicated 'Interest payable' field in the Expenses section of the Profit & Loss wizard step. You should use this to record bank, loan, overdraft, and hire purchase interest, keeping it strictly separate from 'Other charges'.
Accounts Presentation
When populated, this figure appears beautifully presented as 'Interest payable and similar charges' on the face of the profit & loss in both your PDF accounts and the iXBRL accounts filed at Companies House, properly tagged for compliance.
Tax Treatment
Interest payable is treated as an allowable trading deduction, meaning it correctly reduces your taxable trading profit and flows seamlessly through the CT600 and the tax computation.
Imports and APIs
If you import your trial balance from Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent, WeFile will recognise your interest expense accounts and map them to the new field automatically. This field is also fully supported via the developer API and the AI assistant.
