Filing for charities and clubs without a company number
WeFile supports entities that are not registered with Companies House, such as Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs), unincorporated charities, charitable trusts, and unincorporated CASCs.
Adding the Entity
You can add these entities via the 'Charity or CASC (no company number)' mode in the Add Entity dialog. You will need to provide the entity type, name, registration number, and an optional address.
Registration Numbers
A charity is identified by its official registration number from the Charity Commission, OSCR, or CCNI (labelled 'Charity number'). A CASC, being registered with HMRC rather than a charity regulator, is identified by the club's 10-digit HMRC Corporation Tax UTR (labelled 'HMRC UTR' throughout the application).
CT600-Only Filings
These entities are CT600-only. The Companies House accounts leg is entirely disabled, and the registration number is correctly omitted from the CT600 submission XML. You must enter your accounting periods manually because Companies House cannot be queried. Consequently, features dependent on Companies House (such as name sync, officer lookup, SIC codes, and period detection) are hidden.
Accounts and Reports
Annual accounts and the trustees' annual report for these entities must still be filed or retained separately with the relevant regulator. Charitable companies limited by guarantee (which do have a company number) should continue to be added by searching Companies House as normal.
