Tables and subtotal rows in custom notes

For complex data disclosures that require more than just narrative text, you can build proper formatted tables directly inside your custom notes.

Building a Table

Click 'Add a table' in the Notes step of the filing wizard. You can define your own column headings, choose whether each column holds text or numbers, and set the unit (£, %, Number, or none). The editor provides a live preview as you build.

Totals and Subtotals

You can toggle an optional automatic total row that reliably sums every numeric column for you. Additionally, you can mark any row as a subtotal to organise complex data. Subtotal rows can be styled as bold, italic, or plain, and they automatically add a standard line above the row. Crucially, subtotal rows are automatically excluded from the computed total so your figures never double-count.

Accounts Presentation

Your tables render as genuine formatted tables in both the beautifully formatted Accounts PDF and the machine-readable iXBRL accounts submitted to Companies House. UK accounts conventions are applied automatically: negative figures are shown in brackets, and genuinely blank cells are shown as an em-dash rather than a nil figure. You can even write a table-only note with no body text if the figures speak for themselves.

Limits and API Support

To ensure your notes fit correctly onto the printed pages, tables are limited to 6 columns and 25 rows. Tables are preserved perfectly through amendments. For API users, include the `table`, `rowStyles`, and `subtotalStyle` objects on any note. The WeFile AI assistant can also intelligently build note tables for you from a set of figures.
