Dormant Software

File dormant company accounts online.

Keep your inactive company legally compliant. Generate and submit your dormant company accounts to Companies House in under five minutes.

What counts as dormant?

For Companies House, a company is strictly dormant if it has had no significant accounting transactions during the entire accounting period.

This means you haven't bought or sold goods, managed investments, paid employees, or paid dividends. Routine fees paid directly to Companies House and bank charges do not count as significant transactions.

If you traded for part of the period

If your company engaged in any significant trading activity for even a single day within the accounting period, it is not legally dormant.

Instead, you must file a full set of trading accounts and a standard CT600 return. Our platform handles this seamlessly via our standard CT600 software.

What a dormant company must still file

Inactivity does not exempt you from legal filing requirements.

Companies House

Every limited company must file annual statutory accounts with Companies House, even if dormant. We generate specific micro-entity dormant balance sheets.

HMRC Corporation Tax

A dormant company only files a CT600 if HMRC specifically issues a notice to deliver a return. If they do, a 'Nil Return' is required.

How WeFile handles dormant returns

We strip away the complexity so you only see what matters.

Dedicated Dormant Mode

When you flag your filing as dormant, we hide all the complex trading screens, profit & loss inputs, and capital allowance modules.

Simplified Balance Sheet

You simply enter your called-up share capital and any cash at bank. We ensure the accounts balance perfectly every time.

Automated iXBRL Generation

We automatically generate the precise iXBRL tags indicating dormancy status as required by Companies House formatting regulations.

Don't miss the deadline

Companies House requires dormant accounts strictly 9 months after your accounting reference date. Penalties begin at £150 instantly if you file late, even for entirely dormant companies.
