1046: Authentication Failure

Hi,

I am getting the error 1046: Authentication Failure for my CT600 submission. However, I can log in to my Government Gateway account with the same credentials. What may be wrong?

Hi,

The 1046 error means HMRC rejected the credentials during submission. Even though you can log into Government Gateway directly, please check:

  1. You're using your organisation Government Gateway ID (not personal).

  2. Your account is enrolled for Corporation Tax — you can verify this at gov.uk under your Gateway services.

  3. The UTR number in your filing matches the one linked to your Gateway account.

  4. There are no extra spaces in your Sender ID or password fields.

If all of these check out, try re-entering your credentials in the filing and submitting again. Many of our users get this specific error due to not having enrolled for Corporation Tax before. If it is also your case, you should first request a UTR activation code from HMRC to enroll for Corporation Tax.

Hmm, I totally missed that!

It seems that I have not yet enrolled for the Corporation Tax. I'll request a new activation code and resubmit.
