I wonder if we can file for the Community Interest Companies using WeFile?

Hi there,

Unfortunately, Community Interest Companies (CICs) cannot file their accounts electronically via software — this is a restriction imposed by Companies House, not specific to WeFile.

CIC accounts must be filed through the CIC Regulator's website. You can find guidance on how to file your accounts on their website.

However, you can still use WeFile to file your CT600 corporation tax return to HMRC for a CIC — the HMRC submission is not affected by this restriction.

We have also updated WeFile to display a clear message when a CIC company is searched, so users are informed upfront that electronic accounts filing is not available for CICs.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

Good to know. How does HMRC filing work for the CICs?

Hi Kyle,

Great question! Filing your CT600 to HMRC for a CIC works exactly the same as for any other limited company on WeFile. Here's a quick overview:

  1. Add your company — search by company number and add your CIC to your WeFile account.
  2. Select the accounting period — choose the period you need to file for.
  3. Enter your financials — complete the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet through the filing wizard. You can enter data manually or import from Xero, FreeAgent, or QuickBooks.
  4. Corporation Tax is auto-calculated — WeFile works out your tax liability based on your figures and the applicable rates.
  5. Review and submit — check the generated CT600, then submit directly to HMRC. We produce the iXBRL documents automatically.

The only restriction for CICs is the Companies House annual accounts, which must be filed via the CIC Regulator's website. The HMRC CT600 submission is fully supported on WeFile.
