Auto-Generated Filing Documents: Accounts, Tax Computations & CT600 Forms
Introduction
One of the most powerful features of WeFile is the ability to automatically generate all the documents you need for your company's annual filings — directly from the data you enter in our step-by-step filing wizard. Once you've completed your profit & loss statement, balance sheet and company details, WeFile instantly creates your statutory accounts, tax computation reports and CT600 corporation tax return forms, ready for download.
No more manually filling in HMRC forms. No more wrestling with iXBRL tagging. WeFile handles it all, so you can focus on running your business.
Where to Find Your Documents
After completing the filing wizard for any company period, navigate to your filing detail page. You'll find this by going to Filings in your dashboard and clicking on the filing you want to view.
On the filing detail page, look for the Documents section. This is where all your auto-generated documents are listed, each clearly labelled with the accounting period they cover and an "Auto-generated" badge so you know they've been created from your filing data.
Each document row shows the document type, the period it covers, and download buttons for the available formats.
Statutory Accounts (PDF & iXBRL)
The first document listed is your company's statutory accounts. Depending on your company type and filing choices, this will be one of the following:
Dormant Accounts
If your company is dormant with no significant transactions during the period, WeFile generates dormant accounts that confirm the company qualifies for exemption from audit and has had no accounting transactions.
Micro-Entity Accounts (Abridged)
Simplified accounts for qualifying micro-entities, containing only the essential balance sheet information required by Companies House.
Total Exemption Full Accounts
Full accounts for small companies claiming total exemption from audit, including a complete profit & loss statement and balance sheet.
For each accounts type, you have two download options:
- PDF — A professionally formatted PDF document that mirrors the official Companies House layout. This is ideal for your own records, sharing with directors for approval, or printing for board meetings.
- iXBRL — The inline XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) version of your accounts. This is the format required by Companies House for electronic filing. WeFile generates fully tagged iXBRL documents that comply with the UK GAAP FRS 102 Section 1A or FRS 105 taxonomy, so they're ready for submission.
Tax Computation Report (PDF & iXBRL)
If your filing includes a CT600 corporation tax return, WeFile also generates a detailed tax computation report. This document shows exactly how your corporation tax liability has been calculated, including:
- Adjusted trading profit or loss — Starting from your net profit/loss and applying the necessary tax adjustments such as disallowable expenses, depreciation add-backs and capital allowances.
- Corporation tax calculation — The chargeable profits, applicable tax rates for each financial year within your accounting period, and the final tax due.
- Loss relief — If your company has trading losses, the computation shows how losses are offset against other income and how much is carried forward to future periods.
The tax computation is available in both PDF format (for your records and review) and iXBRL format (the tagged version required for HMRC submission alongside your CT600).
This document is essential for understanding how your tax bill is calculated and provides a clear audit trail should HMRC ever raise queries about your return.
CT600 Corporation Tax Return Form
The CT600 is the official HMRC corporation tax return form, and WeFile generates it automatically from your filing data. The generated PDF mirrors the official HMRC CT600 form layout exactly, with all the relevant boxes filled in based on your profit & loss, balance sheet and company information.
Key Sections Populated
- Company information — Company name, registration number, UTR and accounting period dates.
- Turnover and income — Trading profits, bank interest, and other income sources.
- Deductions and reliefs — Trading losses, loss relief claims, and all applicable deductions.
- Tax calculation — The profit split across financial years, applicable corporation tax rates, and the total tax due. For periods spanning 1 April (the start of a new financial year), the profit is automatically apportioned between the two financial years.
- Losses, deficits and excess amounts — Including trading losses carried forward.
- Declaration — Pre-filled with the director's name and the filing date.
The CT600 form is available as a PDF download that you can review, print and keep for your records.
Split Accounting Periods
If your company's accounting period is longer than 12 months, or if it spans a date where HMRC requires the period to be split (such as a change in corporation tax rates), WeFile automatically detects this and generates separate CT600 forms for each sub-period.
Each sub-period CT600 is listed individually in the Documents section with its own date range clearly shown (for example, "CT600 Form — Period 1" and "CT600 Form — Period 2"). The profit & loss figures are correctly apportioned across the sub-periods, and each form can be downloaded independently.
This saves you from the complex and error-prone task of manually splitting your figures across multiple returns.
How the Documents Are Generated
All documents are generated entirely from the data you provide in the WeFile filing wizard:
- Complete the filing wizard — Enter your company's profit & loss items, balance sheet figures, and company details including the director name and credentials.
- Documents appear automatically — As soon as the wizard data is saved, the Documents section on your filing detail page is populated with all applicable documents.
- Download in your preferred format — Click the PDF or iXBRL button next to any document to download it instantly. The files are generated on-the-fly in your browser, so there's no waiting for server processing.
- Re-download any time — If you update your filing data, simply return to the Documents section and download the updated versions. The documents always reflect the latest saved data.
Because the documents are generated client-side from your saved filing data, they're available instantly — no queues, no processing delays.
Tips for Using Your Documents
- Review before submitting — Always download and review your CT600 and accounts PDFs before submitting your filing. Check that all figures match your expectations and that the director name and dates are correct.
- Keep copies for your records — HMRC recommends keeping records for at least 6 years. Download and save copies of all your generated documents for your company records.
- Director approval — Share the accounts PDF with your company directors for review and approval before filing with Companies House.
- iXBRL for electronic filing — The iXBRL files are what get submitted electronically to Companies House and HMRC. WeFile handles the submission for you, but you can also download the iXBRL files for your own records or for use with other software.
