Common questions about company formation through WeFile.

When you register a limited company, WeFile currently supports the formation of Private Companies Limited by Shares only. All officers — including directors, shareholders, secretaries, and persons with significant control (PSCs) — must be individuals. Corporate directors, corporate shareholders, corporate secretaries, and corporate PSCs are not supported at this time.
For self-filers using their own Companies House credit account, WeFile provides free company formation with no platform fee. The only cost is the standard incorporation fee charged by Companies House. If you opt for our Formation Agent mode, WeFile charges a £15 agent fee on top of the Companies House fee for handling the submission on your behalf, payable by card.
The Formation Agent mode is an alternative to self-filing. WeFile acts as an approved Companies House formation agent and handles the entire submission process. You do not need a Companies House credit account. You pay the standard incorporation fee plus a £15 agent fee securely via card, and WeFile reviews and submits the application on your behalf.
  • Self-Filer: £100 standard / £156 same-day (Companies House fees only, billed directly to your credit account).
  • Formation Agent: £115 standard (£100 CH fee + £15 agent fee) / £171 same-day (£156 CH fee + £15 agent fee), paid securely via card.

A Companies House Credit Account (Presenter Account) is required for electronic filing and software submission if you choose to file yourself. It allows Companies House to securely collect their statutory filing fees directly. It is completely free to apply for and set up.

Note: A credit account is only needed if you choose the Self-Filer mode. If you use the Formation Agent mode, you do not need one.

Apply for a Companies House Credit Account
No. When you choose the Formation Agent mode, WeFile submits the formation on your behalf using our own presenter credentials. You simply pay the total fee (including the CH fee and agent fee) via card at checkout. A credit account is only required if you choose the Self-Filer mode.
It is an express service offered by Companies House where your application is processed on the same business day instead of the standard 1-3 business days. It is available Monday to Friday and must be submitted before 3:00 PM UK time. This option is available in both Self-Filer and Formation Agent modes. For Formation Agent, the same-day total is £171 (£156 CH fee + £15 agent fee).
After payment, your formation is reviewed by the WeFile team. Once approved, we submit it directly to Companies House. You can track the status in your dashboard. Once incorporated, your Certificate of Incorporation and other documents will appear in your dashboard automatically.
The Registered Address Service is an optional add-on available in Formation Agent mode. For £40/year, your company's registered office address will be set to our London address at 5 Brayford Square, London, E1 0SG instead of your personal home address. This keeps your home address off the public Companies House register. The service includes scanning of statutory mail and digital delivery of correspondence from HMRC and Companies House. The subscription starts from your company's date of incorporation and renews yearly.
The Service Address add-on allows directors and other officers to use our address (5 Brayford Square, London, E1 0SG) as their personal service address on the Companies House register, keeping their residential address private. It costs £40/year per person and is only available when you also have the Registered Address Service. The service address subscription also starts from the incorporation date and renews yearly alongside the registered address.

When using the Formation Agent mode, all Directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) are required to complete Identity Verification as part of our Know Your Customer (KYC) obligations.

After submitting your formation order and completing payment, the WeFile team will send an ID verification request for each Director and PSC. You will be asked to upload a clear photo or scan of a valid government-issued identity document (e.g. passport, national ID card, or driving licence) — both front and back where applicable.

Our team will review the submitted documents. If a document is unclear or invalid, you will be notified with a reason and can re-upload. Once all identities are verified, your formation will be approved and submitted to Companies House.

If you purchase a Registered Address Service or Service Address add-on, you will also be required to provide:
• A selfie of yourself holding your ID document
• A proof of address document dated within the last 3 months (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, or council tax bill)

Note: ID Verification is only required for Formation Agent orders. If you are a self-filer using your own Companies House Credit Account, KYC is not required as you are filing directly under your own presenter credentials.

No, company formations are available to all registered users regardless of membership status. You do not need our £250/year Accountant Membership just to form a company.
Once Companies House accepts and processes your application, you will automatically receive digital copies of your official Certificate of Incorporation and Memorandum of Association as well as the Company Registration Number (CRN) and Company Authentication Code directly in your WeFile dashboard.
Most standard incorporations are reviewed and processed by Companies House within 1-3 business days. If you select the same-day service and submit your application Monday to Friday before 3:00 PM UK time, it will be processed on the same business day.
